Professional Tree Removal in Stockport & Greater Manchester

When it comes to removing a tree, there is no substitute for experience. At North Cheshire Forestry, we have been working with trees since 1976. That is nearly five decades of climbing, cutting, and clearing in the Stockport area. We aren’t just a team with chainsaws; we are career arborists who understand the mechanics of trees and the safest ways to bring them down.
Tree removal is often a last resort, but sometimes it is the only option. Whether a tree has become diseased, dangerous, or has simply outgrown its position and is threatening your home’s foundations, you need to know the job is going to be done safely. We have built our reputation on handling complex removals in tight spaces where there is zero margin for error. When you hire us, you are hiring a team that puts safety, precision and respect for your property above all else.

Our Tree Removal Service: What We Do
Tree removal isn’t a “one size fits all” job. Every tree is different, and every location presents its own set of challenges. A large Oak in the middle of an empty field is a very different job from a heavy Sycamore leaning over a conservatory in Bramhall.
At North Cheshire Forestry, we provide a comprehensive removal service. This covers everything from felling small saplings to dismantling massive, mature hardwoods.
Our service includes:
- Straight Felling: Where space allows, we can fell a tree from the base in a controlled manner. This is efficient but requires significant clear ground.
- Sectional Dismantling: This is our speciality. Most gardens in Stockport don’t have room to just drop a tree. We climb the tree and take it apart piece by piece, lowering heavy timber safely to the ground using rigging ropes.
- Disease Management: We safely remove trees suffering from Ash Dieback, Honey Fungus, or other pathogens, ensuring we don’t spread the infection to other plants in your garden.
- Storm Damage Clearance: Dealing with windblown or unstable trees that pose an immediate risk to property or public rights of way.
We operate to BS3998 standards. This is the British Standard for Tree Work. It means we don’t cut corners. We adhere to the industry best practices for safety and arboricultural quality. When we work, we work right.
How We Provide the Service: The Process
You might be wondering what actually happens when you call us in to remove a tree. We like to keep things transparent so you know exactly what to expect on the day.
1. The Assessment and Quote
First, we come out to take a look. We can’t give you an accurate price over the phone because we need to see the access, the hazards, and the tree itself. We provide a free, no-obligation quote. We will look for targets, greenhouses, fences, phone lines and plan how to work around them.
2. Site Safety and Preparation
On the day of the job, safety is the first priority. We are fully insured, but our goal is never to need it. We set up a safe working zone. If the tree is near a road or footpath, we manage the area to keep the public safe. All our staff are NPTC trained. This isn’t just a badge; it means we have been assessed and qualified to use the equipment and perform aerial rescue if needed.
3. The Climb and Cut
If we are dismantling the tree, our climbers will ascend using ropes and harnesses. We don’t use spikes if we are pruning a tree to keep it alive, but for removal, spikes allow us to work securely.
We act as a team. The climber cuts the timber, and the ground crew manages any lowering ropes. Large branches are rigged as needed. We attach a rope, cut the branch and the ground crew takes the weight. We then control the branch, lowering it gently to a designated drop zone.
4. Processing the Timber
As the wood hits the ground, the ground team gets to work. Small branches go into the woodchipper. Larger logs are cut into manageable rounds. We keep the site tidy as we go, trip hazards are a no go in this industry.
5. The Cleanup
We pride ourselves on leaving a garden tidier than we found it. Once the tree is gone, we rake up the sawdust and blow down the paths. You shouldn’t have to clean up after us.
Why Choose North Cheshire Forestry?
There are plenty of people with chainsaws and vans out there, but tree surgery is a skilled trade. Here is why you should trust us with your property:
Established in 1976
We have stood the test of time. In an industry where businesses come and go, we have been serving Stockport for nearly 50 years. We have encountered every problem a tree can throw at us, and we have solved them all. You can’t buy that kind of experience.
Fully Qualified and Insured
We carry full public liability insurance. This is essential for your peace of mind. Furthermore, our team holds the relevant NPTC (National Proficiency Tests Council) qualifications for chainsaw use, climbing, and aerial operations. We are professionals.
Trustmark Status and Trade Bodies
We are Trustmark registered. Trustmark is the only government endorsed quality scheme for work carried out in and around the home. It means we have been vetted and meet high standards of trading. We are also members of various trade bodies, including the FCA (Forestry Contracting Association). We stay up to date with the latest industry regulations.
Our Environmental Policy: 100% Recycling
We love trees, and we hate waste. It seems wrong to cut down a tree and send it to a landfill. At North Cheshire Forestry, we have a strict environmental policy: nothing goes to waste.
When we remove a tree, every part of it is recycled:
- Woodchip: All the brushwood and branches are processed through our chippers. This nutrient-rich woodchip is delivered to local allotments, farms, and garden centres to be used for mulch, path surfacing, and soil improvement. It goes back into the ground to help new things grow.
- Timber: The larger logs are processed for firewood. We season the wood and ensure it keeps local homes warm.
By choosing us, you are ensuring a low carbon footprint for your tree work. The tree that comes out of your garden ends up benefiting the local community, not filling up a skip.
Wildlife Awareness: Protecting Nesting Birds
As people who work outdoors, we have a deep respect for wildlife. We are fully aware of our legal and moral obligations regarding nesting birds and bats.
Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, it is an offence to disturb a nesting bird. Before we start any chainsaw work, we carry out a visual inspection of the tree. If we find active nests, we will not proceed with the work in that specific area until the chicks have fledged.
We will always be honest with you about this. If you want a tree down in May, but there is a blackbird nesting in the fork, we will tell you to wait. It is the right thing to do, and it keeps everyone on the right side of the law.
